History of Funk Fo Yo Feet
In the year 2002, Toronto’s,
Fantastic Poppers started an annual event called “Funk Fo Yo
Feet”. This event focuses on and spreads awareness and knowledge
about Funk Styles, incorporating several different forms of street
dance.
So, what goes on at Funk Fo Yo Feet? People come together from
all parts of the world (including other Canadian provinces, the United States and Japan) to not only learn
from each other and to showcase their own talent, but to compete as
well and get down in the cyphers.
Previous winners include:
¨ 2002: Neo Geo
¨
2003: Krazy Bonez
¨
2004:
Krazy Bonez
¨
2005:

¨ 2006: Monsta Pop
& Boogieman Lynx
In between rounds of competition, everyone is able to get down
to music provided by DJ Son of S.O.U.L., the Godfather of spinning
funk, and show their fellow funk styles dancers what they’re made
of.
Each year, at Funk Fo Yo Feet there is a discussion panel where
issues relavant to the Funk Styles community are addressed and
questions form the audience are answered. This year’s focus was
on the need for more crews to continue to develop within the Toronto scene as well as throughout Canada.
Along with the annual panel discussion there is also an annual
Locking showcase which invites anyone who knows how to Lock to come
forward and get down as a means of highlighting the welcoming attitude
lockers share, not only in the showcase but in the dance cyphers as
well.
Funk Fo Yo Feet is the only Funk Styles event of its kind in
Canada
.
This event is appropriate for people of all ages and everyone who
attends gets something out of the day, whether it be learning a new
move, style, knowledge, or making a new connection in the dance
community. Thanks to everybody who came out to support the event in
