Dancing is all about rhythm; let the music move you.
The
term Funk Styles, was created by the world famous
Popper
named Poppin Pete. He coined the term funk
styles because he wanted the art forms of Locking,
Popping, Waving, Robot, Boogaloo and many other
street dances to have there own identity. It’s
because these dances were created to funk music in
the late
70s and 80s. Funk styles originated from the West
Coast: Los Angeles, California, the Bay area and
several other cities in the United States. The
b boy style was created in the East Coast: Brooklyn,
the Bronx, and New York city. All of these street
dances are the original hip-hop dances. It is important
to note, that Funk Styles is not break dancing.
The
term Break dancing only came about through the
media; it is a word, which they used to label all the
street
dances. This caused a confusion, which over the
years has made people think that all street style dances
are one. However, such is not the case. This is
why
the Fantastic Poppers believe it is important to
educate the public about all Funk Styles; so that
others may come to learn and appreciate the dances
that we have come to know and love. Our ultimate
goal is to help elevate the Funk Styles worldwide.
Although we have succeeded in several accomplishments,
we continue to strive for new heights with the
hope of bringing Funk Style dancing to a new level. Fantastic
Poppers was established in 1996, based on the vision
of spreading knowledge about Funk Styles
of dance throughout Canada. Boogaloo Storm and Licorice
Lloydd are the founders of the Fantastic Poppers,
with 20 years of dance experience under their belts.
There are Six members in the group in total: Licorice
Lloydd, Boogaloo Storm, Poppin JC, Scramble Lock
,Loose Canon, Groovin' Grace, Each member brings
his or her own distinctive flavor to the Group.
Since
establishment, Fantastic Poppers have seen their
dreams flourish; teaching the Funk Styles in different
parts of Canada, organizing workshops and drop in
